Ikseon-dong is one of Seoul’s oldest area where you can find a hanok neighborhood. It is located in the center of Seoul, Jongno. This area has started to become hip between youngsters. Huge renovation to most of the hanok houses has turned this neighborhood into bar, cafe, restaurant, and cultural spaces while they keep the traditional sense. People might take some traditional tea after having lunch pasta in between the alleys.
I strolled some alleys last Sunday with drizzling rain.
The little lady turned 6 today! Also she started her second day in taekwondo class… Big girl :*
And today she made this picture❤️
I guess it would be my last summer in Korea. I will post some about my summer of 2016.🙂
It has been crazy hot these days in Seoul. 33-35 degree with super humid air that made it even worse. I am a tropical person who hates winter so much, but it this case hard to like the summer here. Back in my country, the highest temperature will be pretty much the same but very less humidity and some breezy wind could make it better. Hiding under the shades or tree will make us better, but here in Seoul, no wind and if there was it would be hot humid wind.
Instead of the hot summer in Seoul, some summer fruits appeared from local or imported products. This is the first time I tasted the fig fruit, and kinda like it. I couldn’t describe the taste but it is good🙂. We have similar one in Indonesia but have never tried that before, should be almost similar. Blueberry, I can finish a box of them just like eating peanuts…. What is your favorite fruit?
Who doesn’t like watermelon? I love watermelon. Back in my country, I could find it easily whole year, and people will rather choose the seedless one. Here in Korea, we could get it during summer with better taste but with seed. As for me, I don’t care either, but my daughter used to hate the seed eventho we told her just to eat them. It came up into another work for me to remove every seed.
Yesterday, after cutting the watermelon cubes, my daughter came to me:
Tanya: ibu ibu (mommy) look at this…. (Grabbing a seed of watermelon, and eating it).
Me: woaa….finally you ate it. Now, why would you eat that?
Tanya: because sonsaengnim (teacher) told me to…
Me: really… Why? What did sonsaengnim say?
Tanya: she said, it will make me healthy…. (Grabbing some cubes on her bowl)
Me: …. *teacher nailed
Guess at this age she believes her teacher better than us in so many ways. I don’t mind at all as long as in a good way.
Since these days children spend most of their time at school, their role would turn into the teachers. It is very important for teachers to have enough knowledge and experiences to be shared with children. I believe it is not an easy thing to do.
For all the teachers out there: RESPECT!

How would you like to spend your summer weekend afternoon?
Me, sitting outdoor in a cafe with breezy air while enjoying ice caramel macchiato or tea with a slice of cake and camera, along with family or friends, or both🙂. I don’t read books.
Tell me your version.
Time moves fast. It is summer already, and next will be my last 6 months in Seoul. Mixed feeling with so many things to wrap up.
